Good luck to these ladies who dream that it's a bed of roses raising a custom-made baby of mixed parentage. Single parenthood is harder than you think. Some successful women see this as an easy solution to have both career and family (not quite) without being tied down in a less than ideal relationship.
The implications of this seemingly new trend may not have been fully felt yet.

- Are looks / appearances really that important? How can they be sure there aren't any undesirable genes if they hardly know the father of the child?
- What are they going to tell the child who would be deprived of fatherly love. Grandparents are never the same parents.
- What values are they imparting to the future generation? What's a family without commitment and fidelity?

A strange mix of Bohemian cavalier beliefs, reverse racism and bourgeois snobbery!

Quote:
You guys might find this strange, but here is another story, lets call it another twister hospital story. A senior of mine, a renown gynecologist (let's call his Dr. Ong (not his real name)) has been working in the hospital for over 15 years now. He has seen patients of every race and religion coming in and out. He told me recently; he is surprised that Singaporean ladies have changed their mindset over pre-marital sex and co-inhibiting over the last 10 years. He has lady patients (no name mentioned, just a general conversation), very successful lady patients from their late 20s to 40s; usually Singaporeans of all races, coming in pregnant with their Caucasian boyfriend and parents towing along for check-ups. Ong realised the men would disappear usually right before birth or even earlier; but the women and their families would appear to come normally and do their regular check-ups. These babies would be named according to the mother's surname after birth and the women have no problems whatsoever bringing the children up by themselves.

One patient even told Ong she had "waited" for this baby for so long and it took her quite long to search for the suitable father. She told Ong she did not want to have a baby who will look like her or her ex-Chinese bf with slit-eyes and short stature; so she decided to have the baby with a married Angmo colleague who was on a company visit from the US. The father of her baby would return to the US to be with his family and his children; with no strings/commitments attached. The patient's mum even said she was happy with "her daughters choice" because now she will have a granddaughter who will resemble Denise Keller and she hopes her granddaughter will grow up looking more like her biological father than her mother; and that is all that matters to them.

Ong related that this was not the only case; he has been seeing a number of such cases on the rise especially with successful working ladies in their late 30s. These women were very happy with their lives, had great expectations and ambitions and they just needed a baby to complete their lives. Of course they had expectations about how the baby should look like as well; which explains their "choice" of errrr sperm donors.

Look out Singapore - more rojak faces on the loose in 20 years time! Goodbye chicken eyes and flat chests!!

Hot Chilly, how prevalent is this in Singapore?
Is Dr Lee a real doctor or a writer testing his new novel storyline on the internet?
